Features

Drivetrain:
  • 4 CHIP Crab-drive system with 8" operating envelope
  • Each side (2 CHIPs per side) actuated by 1 globe motor
  • 1 Greyhill Rotary Encoder per side to determine crabbing angle
  • Globe motors and R.E.s inline with Pod axes eliminating extra gears or sprockets
  • Custom designed and manufactured (lasercut) plates and gear
  • Speed of 7 ft/s
  • Powerful, compact, efficient design
Primary Frame:
  • 1" X 1.5" X 1/16" aluminum box for outer "ring"
  • 3/4" X 3/4" aluminum box for inner supports
  • Welded allowing for maximum weight/strength ratio
  • Approximately 5 lbs for entire main frame
Ball Accumulator:
  • Designed from lessons learned from 2004 robot (Rowdy 5)
  • Dual custom knurled 1/16" wall aluminum rollers
  • 42 Acetol idler pulleys guide over 45' of yellow industrial grade conveyor tube
  • Dual FP motors power entire assembly, coupled through custom gearbox utilizing modified stock nylon gears
  • Balls "eaten" off the ground and quickly conveyed to the top of the robot for shooter delivery
Ball Shooter:
  • Dual Counter-rotating FP CIM motors for ball propulsion
  • 4 Skyway wheels to provide stability and consistency of shot
  • Distance between wheels adjustable to provide optimal shooting
  • Shooting mechanism on bi-directional turret (2 window motors providing pan and tilt)
  • Household 3" Lazy Susan for panning
  • Custom designed and lasercut plates for weight reduction and geometry
  • Gear arcs integrated directly into horizontal and vertical plates to interface with custom made window motor output gears
Upper Frame 4-bar Linkage:
  • Ball accumulator and supports for ball shooter part of 3' 4-bar linkage
  • Allows for ball shooter to remain in 28" X 38" footprint
  • Ball cage leans back at 6 degrees for shooting mode
  • Cage moves to upright position for ball collection mode
  • Actuated with 1 1/2" bore pneumatic
Electronics and Pneumatics:
  • 12 Victor 884's (6 - drivetrain, 2 - ball accumulator, 4 - Ball Shooter)
